Although I instinctually knew that the public school system was not the right environment for Jason, I didn’t completely trust my gut.

Although some of his teachers seemed to understand Jason and the way in which they could affect his growth in a positive way, many were completely lost. There also existed a consensus that initiating programs for him would be costly and ultimately not beneficial to the school population as a whole.

Throughout these years, it became obvious that the school officials, teachers, and others were unsure of how to deal with a child like Jason. Instead of worrying about how to help him, their instinct was to be concerned about how Jason might cause trouble for them and other students.
